As far as possible, the smilin'' dental practice is there for you during the day: you can call us at any time during our opening hours and tell us about your dental problem. Of course, this is also possible by e-mail.
- If your complaints can still be postponed a little, you can come to our practice at the next possible appointment.
- In extremely urgent cases, we will advise you to contact the nearest dental emergency service.
Below we have listed typical dental problems that can occur acutely.

Toothache
In most cases, toothache is not a case for the emergency dental service. Until you visit our practice soon, it often helps to take a painkiller. Please note: Under no circumstances should you take aspirin after dental surgery such as tooth removal, root canal treatment or the insertion of a dental implant. This blood-thinning agent can trigger or increase bleeding from the wound.

Sensitivity to cold or heat
Sensitivity to cold is often caused by tooth decay or a leaking filling. Exposed tooth necks can also be responsible for this. Tooth sensitivity to heat is usually caused by an inflamed tooth nerve. You therefore do not need to visit the dentist's emergency service. After an examination in our practice, we can determine the cause and take countermeasures, such as replacing a filling, treating tooth decay or root canal treatment. A sudden reduction in severe pain is no reason to postpone a visit to the dentist. Sometimes this indicates the death of a tooth root. To avoid this becoming a case for the dentist's emergency service, you'd better come to us as soon as possible.

Fallen out filling / broken tooth pieces
In such a case, you do not have to go to the emergency dental service, but you should visit our practice as soon as possible: The health of the tooth is now at risk and it needs immediate protection, for example with a new filling or an artificial dental crown.

Loss of bridge, crown, inlay or temporary restoration
If possible, save the lost item and bring it to us. We can then reattach it securely or provide a replacement. You therefore do not need to call the dentist's emergency service.

Broken or damaged denture
You don't have to go to the dentist's emergency service for this either. Simply come to us at the earliest possible date and we will take care of the repair as quickly as possible in cooperation with our in-house dental laboratory. Please do not attempt to repair the damage yourself.

In the following cases, you should seek dental treatment immediately - if there is no other option, then at the emergency dental service:

Knocked out tooth
A tooth that has been lost due to external force or an accident must be treated without delay. The tooth should be kept as safe as possible and taken to the dentist or emergency dental service. Dental rescue boxes are usually available in schools. Alternatively, the tooth can be transported to the dental practice or emergency dental service in chilled UHT milk or sterile saline solution. Dry storage, for example in a paper handkerchief, is out of the question, as the root of the tooth usually dies in this way.

Persistent bleeding
A tooth that bleeds for a long time after an injury or dental surgery must be treated immediately - if there is no other option, by the emergency dental service. In this way, the cause can be determined and the bleeding stopped.

Febrile inflammation
It often goes hand in hand with a "fat cheek". This is usually caused by an acute bacterial infection. It must be treated in our practice or by the emergency dental service as soon as possible. This is the only way to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of the body.
