Artificial Dental Crowns – Custom Restorations with Durability and Aesthetics
When a tooth is severely damaged, an artificial dental crown can restore its original function and appearance. At smilin’’, we create each crown individually using highly durable materials — ensuring a secure bite and long-lasting satisfaction with your restoration.
When is a dental crown needed?
A dental crown is needed in several situations:
-
when extensive tooth structure has been lost due to decay and a simple filling is no longer sufficient
-
especially for root-treated teeth, which can become more fragile
-
when the defect extends below the gumline
-
when a tooth is brittle or heavily stressed and requires additional stability
Types & Materials at smilin’’
At smilin’’, we offer dental crowns in various designs and materials:
-
Partial crowns – used when parts of the natural tooth can still be preserved, for example when the side walls remain stable
-
Full crowns – necessary when a complete cover is required to ensure stability and protection
-
All-ceramic crowns – metal-free, made from materials like zirconia, highly aesthetic and very similar to natural teeth in shape and colour
-
Temporary crowns – to protect and stabilise the tooth while the final crown is being made
Fabrication & Placement at smilin’’
Here’s how the process works in our practice:
-
Preparation: the tooth is shaped and reduced as needed to create space for the crown.
-
Impression or digital scan: to precisely capture the form, size and colour of the tooth as a template for our lab.
-
Fabrication: the crown is crafted from ceramic, often using CAD/CAM technology, and refined by skilled technicians in our in-house lab.
-
Temporary crown: the tooth is protected with a temporary restoration while the final crown is being made.
-
Placement: the finished crown is cemented in place, and fit and function are checked. With good care, the crown can last for many years.
