Artificial dental crowns
You can often preserve your natural tooth
In some cases, a tooth has more severe defects, but is absolutely worth preserving. An artificial dental crown can then serve as a protective cover for the diseased tooth. Thanks to the crown, tooth loss can often be avoided. At the smilin'' dental practice in Rheinfelden, we manufacture such dental crowns individually for you. We only use particularly durable materials. They give you a secure chewing sensation and outstanding esthetic results.

When do you need an artificial dental crown?
Modern dentistry strives to preserve your natural teeth for as long as possible. This is because a preserved tooth and tooth root is the best way to promote the health of the jawbone and neighboring teeth. A custom-fit dental crown can provide good service in tooth preservation. It is used in the following cases in particular:
-
if a lot of tooth substance has been lost during caries treatment
-
especially with root-treated teeth
-
If a tooth defect spreads to below the gums
-
if teeth are otherwise unstable or brittle
In the case of extensive caries treatment, for example, quite a lot of diseased tooth substance has to be removed. This is particularly the case if the caries has penetrated deep into the tooth and root canal treatment is necessary. A simple dental filling would often not give the tooth the necessary stability afterwards - for example, because its side walls are only very thin or no longer present at all. The artificial dental crown, on the other hand, can withstand masticatory pressure for many years.
Even if a single tooth can no longer be saved and has to be removed, a dental crown can be a good replacement. It is then attached to a dental implant, an artificial tooth root. This is firmly connected to the jawbone and can support the crown very securely.
There are two different types of dental crowns:

Types of crowns
-
Partial crowns only cover part of the tooth surface. The side walls of the tooth are then so well preserved that they can remain.
-
Full crowns completely encase a severely affected tooth from all sides.
Regardless of the type of dental crown, at the smilin'' dental practice in Rheinfelden we usually provide you with a metal-free all-ceramic crown. It is made for you in our in-house dental laboratory to the highest quality standards. Such all-ceramic crowns have a particularly stable zirconium dioxide framework and are very durable. Their tooth shade and shape can be precisely matched to the tooth environment. This allows us to achieve particularly satisfying aesthetic results.

Production and use
To prepare for the artificial dental crown, the tooth is first ground down so that it can support it well. A dental impression is then made. It serves our in-house dental laboratory as a template for the individual production of your dental crown. It is precisely milled from a ceramic block using a computer-aided process and then finished by one of our experienced dental technicians. When producing the dental crown, the dental technician can choose between countless shades. In this way, the appearance of your natural teeth can be matched so precisely that the dental crown is practically indistinguishable from them.
After a few days, your artificial dental crown is ready. In the meantime, your tooth will be given a secure temporary covering. The finished crown is attached to the ground tooth with a high-quality special adhesive. Modern dental crowns are very durable, and good care makes them particularly long-lasting.
If you wish, we can also use a state-of-the-art digital process. This eliminates the time spent waiting for your dental crown. Thanks to computer support, the dental crown can be fitted immediately after your dental treatment - usually within an hour. To do this, your tooth is scanned three-dimensionally with the help of a special camera. The data is then sent directly to the milling system in the dental laboratory, which cuts your dental crown to size. It can then be used immediately.
